The road to nowhere from exile
Aub describes in 1947, in the
mouth of his character, Emilio, the journey through the immense
solitude of the world he is led to be exiled in after the Spanish
Civil War. A new life overseas with Tránsito, his lover in exile;
and another who lives in her letters: Cruz, his wife in Spain. Body
and heart separated on a journey marked on the map of time by a
cross; and marked by a metaphorical transit towards a destination
that has been reached with a suitcase filled with pain and
absences.
