NumEros
The National Dance Company's new project, NumEros, is a choreographic triptych that pays tribute to the talent of three dance geniuses. The show opens with Serenade, the first piece that the legendary George Balanchine conceived for the American Ballet - which he founded in 1935 in New York - inspired by Tchaikovsky's famous Serenade for Strings. This is followed by the world premiere of Echoes from a Restless Soul, set to Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit, created by Italian dancer and choreographer Jacopo Godani as a succession of pas de deux and quartets in tune with Ravel's pianistic virtuosity. The triptych concludes with New Yorker William Forsythe and his Playlist (Track 1, 2), where the movements combine classical and contemporary dance, recreating a playlist of neo-soul and house music.
