Gustavo Gimeno closes the OCV's symphonic cycle with The Firebird, thus completing his conducting of Stravinsky's famous ballet trilogy at Les Arts. Previously, in the first part, French mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa will delight us with Falla's Seven Spanish Folk Songs, preceded by Ravel's Rapsodie espagnole. The Firebird marked the beginning of Stravinsky's collaboration with Diaghilev's Ballets Russes in Paris. It was the culmination of his early period, still influenced by the composers of his generation, especially his teacher Rimsky-Korsakov and the French Impressionists - evident in details such as the colourful orchestration and sensuality - and the gestation of his style, with the flowering of harsh rhythms and characteristic fragmented melodic motifs.
