FABIO LUISI
Anton Bruckner 1824 – 1896
Symphony No. 8 in C minor, WAB 108
Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana
“Indescribable, unforgettable, unspeakable” was how the reviews described the monographic concert dedicated to Strauss that Fabio Luisi conducted at Les Arts in 2023. This season, the Italian maestro tackles Bruckner's Symphony No. 8, “the work of a giant”, in the words of Hugo Wolf. The score surpassed all the German composer's previous works in terms of size and spiritual depth and was the last one he completed, which he did not hesitate to describe as “the most significant”. It represents the culmination of Bruckner's symphonic language: brilliant orchestration, dazzling sound structure, an epic yet dramatic spirit with passages that lead to thrilling climaxes, and the recapitulation of the themes in the triumphant finale, where the composer's annotation “Amen!” appears, expressing the triumphant and mystical character of the work.
