The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía is focusing on opera for the whole family this Christmas season with the premiere of Beauty and the Beast this coming Thursday, January 3rd.
Beauty and the Beast is a spectacular opera film by Philip Glass, based on the film of the same name by French filmmaker and author Jean Cocteau. Petr and Matěj, sons of Oscar-winning director Miloš Forman, who presented A Well-Paid Walk at the Valencian opera house last season, are responsible for recreating the magical atmosphere of this universal love story.

Beauty and the Beast is a co-production of the Palau de les Arts with the National Theatre of Prague that will delight adults and children alike thanks to its stunning set design and the music of American Philip Glass, one of the most prestigious contemporary composers of the moment and author of soundtracks such as The Truman Show, The Hours, The Illusionist or Woody Allen's latest film, Cassandra's Dream.

A wonderful opportunity to relive the tale of Madame Le Prince de Beaumont, which has become part of popular culture thanks to its numerous adaptations, including the one Walt Disney brought to the big screen in 1991. Beauty and the Beast will be performed on January 3, 4, 5, and 6.

The cast is headed by Marina Rodríguez Cusí from Valencia in the role of Belle, while Andrea Porta will play the Beast. Petr Kofroš will conduct the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana. The rest of the cast includes: Petra Nôtová (Felicia), Lenka Šmídová (Adelaide), Roman Vocel (Avenant), Oleg Korotkov (Father), Oldšich Kšíž (Ludović), Josef Moravec (Usurer), and Martin Matoušek (Officer).
