The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía has already sold more than 10,000 tickets for the various shows of the First Mediterranean Festival, whose general sale began last Friday.

The First Mediterranean Festival, designed to attract an international audience, has registered online purchases from countries such as Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the United States, among others.

Six symphonic concerts, a film series, exhibitions and lectures

In addition to the aforementioned performances, the Festival del Mediterrani has programmed six symphonic concerts, including the one on May 25, Cuadros y Colores (Paintings and Colors), conducted by Zubin Mehta and featuring the acclaimed pianist Mayuko Kamio. On June 4, the Sala Martin i Soler will be inaugurated with a concert that will mark the world premiere of this Valencian composer's work, Philistaei a Jonatha dispersi, performed by the prestigious Accademia Bizantina di Ravenna. On June 16, another important event will take place: the concert Mozart y Martín i Soler, genios en paralelo (Mozart and Martín i Soler, Parallel Geniuses), conducted by Zubin Mehta, featuring the renowned countertenor Bejun Mehta, and with a program paying tribute to these composers.

The program of the Festival del Mediterrani is completed with a film cycle by Chen Kaige, Palme d'Or winner of the Cannes Film Festival, with affordable prices of three euros; a series of lectures, round tables and meetings with the artists in the Aula Magistral about the works performed and an open-air theater performance by La Fura dels Baus entitled Anell de llum.

The theme, the common thread of the programming, of this first edition of the Festival at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, delves into the effect that light, in its multiple meanings, has had on universal culture and, very specifically, on Valencian culture.

The light of the Mediterranean… The light that fuels Turandot’s “hope”, the light that illuminates Siegfried in his search for Brünnhilde; the light that illuminates the inspiration of Bach, Mahler, Messiaen or Takemitsu… The light that Sorolla projects and encourages the music of Esplá or Rodrigo, who knew how to see and listen beyond any limitation.
