Valencia (XX.4.10).- The German record critics' association has distinguished the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía production of Die Walküre as one of the best DVDs of the first quarter of 2010.
The German Record Critics' Award (Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik) was established in 1963 with the mission of recognizing the most outstanding recordings. A jury of 114 critics and journalists from German-speaking countries makes up the jury that awards this prize.
The DVD and Blu-ray edition of the Palau de les Arts' Ring Cycle, released by the C Major label, has been met with great acclaim in international markets. Leading publications have praised La Fura dels Baus' staging, Zubin Mehta's work with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, and the exceptional quality of the cast.
The British magazine BBC Music Magazine has described La Fura dels Baus' production as "the most exciting seen to date," concluding that it is "the best Ring cycle on video in a long time." The German newspaper Abendzeitung is much more emphatic, headlining its review: "Bayreuth can pack its bags," referring to the festival in the German city that Richard Wagner himself founded and promoted. The Austrian publication Der neue Merker deems the co-production of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino a "must-have" for any video collection.
