The Monegasque opera house already programmed the Valencian production of Puccini's Turandot in 2009.

Valencia. The Monte Carlo Opera will begin its 2013/2014 season with productions of Amelia al ballo and The Telephone , by Gian Carlo Menotti, which the Centre de Perfeccionament of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía premiered in 2011 with musical direction by Plácido Domingo.

This co-production between the Valencian arts center and the Monegasque opera company is the work of Jean-Louis Grinda, who also directed the production of Puccini's Tosca , which the opera house premiered at the IV Festival del Mediterrani.

Plácido Domingo conducted students from his training centers around the world for the first time in this double program with which the Palau de les Arts paid tribute to Gian Carlo Menotti on the centenary of his birth.

This is the second time that the Monegasque opera house has included a production made in Valencia to open its opera season.

In November 2009, the Salle des Princes at the Forum Grimaldi, an auditorium with a capacity of 1,800 people and equipped with the latest stage technology, premiered Puccini's Turandot in the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco and Princess Caroline of Hanover. This marked the first time Chen Kaige's production for the Palau de les Arts had traveled to another European country.

A long history of co-productions

The Palau de les Arts has collaborated with the main opera houses, a journey that began in 2007 with Richard Wagner's Tetralogy in collaboration with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, with which it also co-produced Bizet's Carmen .

Europe has been the main market for the Valencian arts center's co-productions, which include productions such as A Well Paid Walk , by Suchý and Šlitr; La Belle et la bête , by Glass, with the National Theater in Prague; Les Troyens , by Berlioz, with the Marinski Theater in Saint Petersburg and the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, Tosca , by Puccini, with the Fondazione Festival Pucciniano Torre del Lago, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Teatro Regio di Torino; Verdi's Aida , with London's Covent Garden and Oslo's Den Norske Opera & Ballet; and Boris Godunov , by Mussorgsky, with the Regio di Torino and Fondazione Lirico Sinfonica Petruzzelli e Teatri di Bari.

In 2011, the Palau de les Arts produced its first production with a Spanish theater, the Teatro Real in Madrid: L'elisir d'amore , by Donizetti, which can be seen in the Spanish capital in its next season.

This season, the opera house in the city of Valencia has presented its first two works with American theaters: Puccini's La Bohème , in collaboration with the Philadelphia Opera, and Verdi's I due Foscari , co-produced with the Los Angeles Opera and the Austrian Theater an der Wien.
