Valencia. The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía announces that reservations for the European Opera Days will be made on the opera house's website, www.lesarts.com , through online forms, which will be available from next Thursday, May 7, starting at 10:30 a.m.

The arts center joins the celebrations of the opera festival from May 8th to 10th with a diverse program of activities. The screening of Verdi's La Traviata opens the series of events on May 8th at 8:00 pm. The Teatro Real in Madrid, host of this year's Opera Europa conference, presents Verdi's classic, which the Valencian public can enjoy live from the Aula Magistral of the Calatrava building.

Later, on the 9th, the arts center opens its doors to offer guided tours of the technical and artistic areas of the Palau de les Arts, a new edition of the VestuArts educational workshop, as well as attendance at a rehearsal of the opera Narciso , by Domenico Scarlatti.

The tour of the building, accompanied at all times by a guide, includes the key points for the development of an opera performance: the departments of characterization, costumes, props, the dressing room area as well as the stage box of the Main Hall, the epicenter of all lyrical performances.

Through VestuArts , children, accompanied by adults if they wish, will discover in a practical way the work of the department in charge of the creation, adaptation and making of the costumes of singers, choir members and extras in each opera and zarzuela production.

Finally, to offer a firsthand look at the work leading up to an opera's premiere, the Teatro Martín i Soler will allow the public to witness a rehearsal by the artists of the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo. The singers in this project are currently immersed in their upcoming production, Domenico Scarlatti's Narciso , directed by Davide Livermore.

Contest on Nabucco , by Verdi

The European Opera Days program concludes with a competition organized by the Education Department for children aged 8 to 10 about Verdi's Nabucco , which will allow the winners to watch the opening scenes and part of the performance of this work on May 10.

To participate, children must answer a questionnaire about this opera, available at www.lesarts.com . The contest is part of the Educational Program for this season.

The winners will then visit the Palau de les Arts on May 10 for a performance of Nabucco and will see the entire process prior to the start of a performance: the work of the stage technicians, the preparation of musicians, extras and singers, the characterization of each of the characters… which will end with attendance at the first act of this opera.
