The Canalense Musical Association, winner of the LXIX National Music Band Competition 'Ciutat de Cullera', stars in the second day of the cycle 'Bandes a Les Arts 2016'. This evening, June 25, at 12:00 p.m., the Auditorium of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía will host a free concert of 'La Canalense', under the direction of José Martínez Colomina.

The program includes pasdobles and fragments of sarsuela, in addition to some of the works by which the band is going to win the first prize in Cullera, the passat month of April.

The evening begins with the pasdoble 'Sighs of Spain', by Álvarez Alonso, and the prelude to 'The Weddings of Luis Alonso', by Gerónimo Giménez. Next, the passable 'Gloria Ramírez', the fandango of 'Doña Francisquita' and 'Hispania (Fantasía Española)', by the Valencian Óscar Navarro, complete this first part, which will include the performance of the dancers Sandra Ruiz Vicente and Elisa Pérez Beltrán with their accompaniment.

After the break, the Canalense Musical Association performed the concert with the pasdoble 'Certamen levantino', by Pascual Marquina, and two works by two contemporary Valencian composers: 'Vasa', by Josep Suñer Oriola, and 'Athenea', by Josep Vicent Egea.

Les Arts reminds you that entry to this concert in the cycle 'Bandes a Les Arts 2016' is free. The distribution of locations is carried out at the ticket offices in order to complete the capacity of the auditorium.

Canalense Musical Association

The origins of the Canalense Musical Association date back to 1946, with the arrival of master Joaquín Sellés to Canals to found a musical band in support of the city council. That's when the educational school began to operate and, two years later, on the occasion of Saint Cecilia's Day, the band's first official record was announced.

It will be in 1968 that this band will stop being municipal and, if later, become the Canalense Musical Association. In the history of the musical association there have been different directors such as José Perales Ferre, Carlos Revert or Luis Pedrón Francés, but since 2005 it has been directed by José Martínez Colomina, professor of trumpet at the Conservatori Superior de Castelló and regular collaborator of the Orquestra Simfònica and the Grup Instrumental de València.

The musical society includes the band, a youth group, the famous Cor Calixtí and the music school that, today, includes 17 teachers and 150 students who are preparing to become great musicians.
