28.06.2016

The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía celebrates a double edition of its nightly open house 'Nit a Les Arts' on the nights of July 1 and 2, with which the cultural enclave bids farewell to activity open to the public until September.

'Nit a Les Arts' offers technical and artistic demonstrations and live performances by the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, as well as an exhibition of costumes and props from the opera "Aida" for all who visit the Santiago Calatrava building. As a grand finale, both nights will conclude with a DJ set.

The activity for the public begins on both Friday 1 and Saturday 2 with the start of the six passes of the technical-artistic exhibition that takes place on the stage of the Main Hall at the following times: 8:00 p.m., 8:50 p.m., 9:40 p.m., 11:00 p.m., 11:50 p.m. and 12:40 a.m.

In groups of up to 240 people, attendees have the opportunity to learn firsthand, through a 40-minute show, about the operation of the stage machinery, lighting, audiovisuals and all the elements necessary to put on an opera performance.

The artistic part of this exhibition is provided by the artists of the Centre Plácido Domingo and the Ballet de la Generalitat, who offer a performance, directed by Emilio López, that combines elements of lyricism and dance.

To enjoy this activity, those interested must go to the Les Arts Box Office 30 minutes before the start of the performance that best suits their schedule. A maximum of two tickets per person will be given out until the capacity of each performance is reached.

Likewise, the arts center reserves a number of seats for these passes for its Season ticket holders, who can make their reservation between June 29 and 30 in the section of the website that the coliseum will provide for this purpose.

The wardrobe of “Aida”

From 8:30 pm on both evenings, the Main Hall Vestibule will open its doors to enjoy an exhibition of costumes and props from the opera "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi.

The public will be able to freely enjoy the costumes designed by Moritz Junge for this co-production of Les Arts with Covent Garden in London and the Oslo Opera, as well as props used in this production.

Live music and free exploration of the terraces

From 8:30 p.m. onwards, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía opens its terraces and balconies for anyone who wants to discover and enjoy the outdoor spaces of the opera house.

The resident ensembles of the Valencian arts center: El Cor de la Generalitat, which is collaborating for the second time in this event, and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana provide the musical accompaniment to the white night at Les Arts.

The Los Toros Restaurant, located on the eleventh floor of the theater and connected to the Terrasses de les Palmeres, is the setting where, from 9:00 p.m. to midnight, the Cor de la Generalitat and groups of OCV Professors offer various performances.

On Friday, the protagonists will be the musicians of the main ensemble of the Palau de les Arts with micro-concerts of 25 minutes in duration at 9:00 p.m., 9:55 p.m., 10:45 p.m. and 11:40 p.m.

On Saturday, the OCV soloists will take turns with the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana, which, accompanied on the piano by Francisco Hervás and directed by Francesc Perales, performs choruses from titles that make up the 2016-2017 Season of Les Arts such as “L'elisir d'amore”, by Donizetti, “I vespri siciliani” and “La traviata”, by Verdi, “Gloria”, by Vivaldi, “Israel in Egypt”, by Handel, or “Missa Papae Marcelli”, by Palestrina.

From 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., the Palau de les Arts will also have a restaurant service on both terraces of the eleventh floor, where a spectacular LED sculpture, courtesy of the artist Nacho Ruiz, will be on display.

From 0.30 h, on that same floor, the terrace overlooking the Turia Garden will be transformed into a large dance floor with a music session by DJ Begoña Jiménez, from the Les Arts team, who will close out the activity of both days with a 'dance' rhythm.

The arts center will close its doors at 2 a.m. on both Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd.
