The arts center houses the production of 'L'elisir d'amore', made in co-production with the Teatro Real, which has been required by the opera houses of Brussels, Graz and Palerm. Damiano Michieletto marks the inn on stage, with scenery by Paolo Fantin, costumes by Silvia Aymonino and lighting by Alessandro Carletti.

For the next band, the rising North American tenor William Davenport, who will also sing Donizetti's 'Lucrezia Borgia', plays the role of Nemorino, while Paolo Bordogna, one of the most successful baritons in the bel canto repertoire and who will make his debut at Les Arts in 2011 with 'La Cenerentola', performs life to Dulcamara.

The main character is baritone Mattia Olivieri (Belcore), who is also training at the Center de Perfection and who currently sings regularly at the Scala de Milà.

A metaphor for the discomfort of young people

“L'elisir d'amore” is a comic opera in two acts with a book by Felice Romani, based on the book by Eugene Scribe for 'Le philtre' by Daniel-François-Esprit Auber. Released in Milà in 1832, it recounts the vicissitudes that the naive Nemorino goes through to win the love of the rich and distant Adina. Donizetti's work is one of the essential fish in the opera repertoire and I told some of the most popular series of the genre such as 'Una furtiva lagrima' and 'Chiedi all'aura lusinghiera'.

According to the stage director of this muntatge, Damiano Michieletto, "The story of 'L'elisir d'amore' is funny but sad now because it shows the misfortune of Nemorino as a slave to a magical elixir that promises love. But the elixir itself is a lie in itself."

Donizetti's work - matisa Michieletto - is also a metaphor about the discomfort of young people who seek refuge in chemical substances to avoid facing the serious problems. "Per això I have opted - specifically - to contextualize the story in the current moment with real and credible characters. The cry on runs here 'Elisir d'amore' is the beach."

Per Michieletto, "this story, the beach, brings together in a simple way the necessary relationships of the book and enhances the fun and credibility of the public. In the first act it is the daytime beach, both the families and the children who play . In the second act it is the nighttime beach, both party, alcohol, sex, jokes and after the desolate and buoyant beach in which Nemorino sings 'Una furtiva llàgrima', one of the most famous moments of the score .”

In Michieletto's production, Adina runs the beach bar where Giannetta works. Nemorino is a humble “noi per a tot”, the maximum of this is to be able to contemplate the beautiful Adina. Dulcamara is a modern sailor who promises to congratulate the six energetic beuratges, while Belcore is a new sailor at the port who disembarks on the coast with both female company.
