'Lucrezia Borgia', the first opera that Les Arts broadcast live

15.03.2017

'Lucrezia Borgia', by Gaetano Donizetti, will become the first opera that the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía will broadcast live on April 1. It is still possible through a collaboration agreement with the Valencian Tourism Agency. In this sense, the regional Secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, has volgut to highlight that "the union of tourism and culture is fundamental in our promotion strategy of the Valencian Community and, obviously, the Palau de les Arts is a great bastion at all levels."

Through The Opera Platform and free of charge, a potential audience of two million viewers from all over the world will be able to watch the first new production that Les Arts premieres in the 2016-2017 Season.

The initiative also included the broadcast during the intermission of interviews, and audiovisual continguts around Les Arts, Donizetti's opera and the Borja Family's undertaking to the Valencian Community.

The only requirement to watch the show is to have an optimal Internet connection. Once broadcast is complete, 'Lucrezia Borgia' will continue to be available for viewing on 'The Opera Platform' website for a period of six months.

Fabio Biondi, in the musical direction, and Emilio Sagi, as the architect of the inn on stage, are immersed in the last bits of this musical melodrama, based on Victor Hugo's portrait of the enigmatic daughter of Pope Alexander VI.

Musically, 'Lucrezia Borgia' is one of Gaetano Donizetti's most devilish scores, especially for its protagonist, a role that in the history of poetry has been reserved for various legends, among whom Montserrat Caballé and Joan Sutherland stand out.

The Italian soprano Mariella Devia, considered the last great lady of bel canto, plays the controversial protagonist in Les Arts. Accompanying them in the repartiment are recognized performers of the genre: the North American tenor William Davenport (Gennaro), the Croatian bass-baritone Marko Mímica (Alfonso d'Este) and the Valencian mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro Santafé (Maffio Orsini).

It is from the five muntatge - the third of his own production - that Emilio Sagi presents in the cultural enclave of Valencia after his most celebrated forays into Spanish opera and sarsuela: 'The Witch' and 'The King Who Raged', both by Ruperto Chapí; 'Luisa Fernanda', by Moreno Torroba; i 'The duet of 'La Africana', by Fernández Caballero.

The inn on stage with scenery by Llorenç Corbella, costumes by Pepa Ojanguren and lighting by Eduardo Bravo, marked the first visit of the director from Oviedo during this season, which will also feature a second production: 'Tancredi', by Rossini.
