The Palau de les Arts premieres this Saturday, February 29, 'Il viaggio a Reims', by Gioachino Rossini, in a production with musical direction by Francesco Lanzillotta and staged by Damiano Michieletto.

Les Arts has presented this title with which it concludes the 'Marató Rossini', the cycle of opera, concerts, recitals, gastronomic activities, DJ music, col·loquis and cinema at the will of the figure of this composer, who has continued to be realized in collaboration with Tourism.

Together with the artistic director of the Arts, Jesús Iglesias Noriega, they appeared in the press round, Francesco Lanzillotta, musical director, and Eleonora Gravagnola, assistant stage director.

Iglesias Noriega has qualified 'Il viaggio a Reims' as “one of the great bets of the season”. “Musically it is an authentic celebration of vocal virtuosity, an unprecedented piece in the repertoire of the Arts, which brings together a series of exceptional difficulties and enlightening ensemble fish.”

Scenically, the artistic director has highlighted the innovative posing on stage by Damiano Michieletto, the scenery by Paolo Fantin, costumes by Carla Teti and lighting by Alessandro Carletti, co-produced by the Dutch National & Opera Ballet, Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen and Opera Australia, which, since its premiere in Amsterdam in 2015, has collit public successes and criticism in Copenhagen, Rome, Moscow and Melbourne.

Born in Rome, Francesco Lanzillotta makes his debut with the Choir of the Generalitat and the Orchestra of the Valencian Community. Considered one of the most notable conductors of the current generation, the composer has also been musical director of the Macerata Festival since 2017, after holding the title of the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic between 2014 and 2017.

For the Roman master, who will inaugurate with great success the 2019-2020 season of the prestigious Dresden Semperoper with this 'Dramma giocoso' in an acte, 'Il viaggio a Reims' is “more of a cantata than an opera”.

“To point out, it is important to go beyond the notes written in order to get as close as possible to the Rossinian aesthetics, since this score, with its six large numbers and vocal difficulties, can be played fluidly.”

In this subject, Eleonora Gravagnola has continued to explain the scenic conception of Damiano Michieletto, who, based on the feblesa of the dramaturgy of the book - the gathering of some representatives of the most prominent nationalities in Europe to attend the coronation of Charles X in Reims - proposes a new reading.

Michieletto creates an imaginary world in a museum, the Golden Lilium Gallery, in which two groups coexist. For a band, contemporary people, the workers of this gallery, to prepare the opening of an exhibition. On the other hand, a series of historical characters appear that wander around the shops looking for the painting to which they belong.

A surreal situation, in which the Venetian stage director creates the prototypical ingredients of Rossinian plots. The interpreters of this production of 'The trip to Reims' will also make a trip, but imaginary, through which the viewer will know the reason for the presence of these historical people and the one they come from.

The distribution of 'The trip to Reims' is the solid agreement and young Rossinians of the current lyrical scene, with Albina Shagimuratova, Misha Kiria, Ruth Iniesta and Adrian Sâmpetrean, together with others who have passed at the famous Pesaro festival, darrere de l'empremta by Alberto Zedda, with Mariangela Sicilia, Ruzil Gatin or Sergey Romanovsky, in addition to the winner of the Opera Awards 2019 for the best young woman, Marina Viotti, the Spanish César San Martín and the prestigious Fabio Capitanucci.

The cast is complete with the performers of the Plácido Domingo Perfection Center: Max Hochmuth, Joel Williams, Aida Gimeno, Evgeniya Khomutova and Omar Lara, the Valencian tenor Gonzalo Manglano and Francesca Cucuzza.

In addition to the premiere of this upcoming film, Les Arts has scheduled 'Il viaggio a Reims' on March 3, 6, 10 and 14.

Pre-release ends on the 28th

Així mateix, Jesús Iglesias Noriega has reminded that on the 27th, Les Arts will celebrate the preview of ''Il viaggio a Reims', which is exclusively for children under 29 years of age.

“As regards the public attention staff, there will be no one who has been in the Main Hall for more than 28 years,” said the artistic director, who has highlighted the proposal in the statement that the young public “is recognized as part of the Arts”.

In this sense, the artistic director has highlighted the success of this new initiative, with more than 1,000 locations acquired, which doubles the number of viewers under 29 years of age who attend the preview of 'La tabernera del puerto', by Pablo Sorozábal.
