Valencia (11.2.21). The artists of the Center de Perfectionament del Palau de les Arts premiere here next month, February 13, 'L'isola disabitata' , by Manuel García, at the Teatre Martín i Soler.
The artistic director of the Arts, Jesús Iglesias Noriega, accompanied by the theater's stage director, Emilio Sagi, has presented this work, which was a new bet for the overture to our authors, as well as an excellent opportunity for the performers of the Center de Perfectionament.
Manuel García, as Iglesias Noriega has explained, is a fascinating figure in the cultural life of the 19th century. The Sevillà will be a singer, composer, actor, entrepreneur, master of singing and founder of a musical dynasty that has covered pages in the history of poetry.
“Personal friends of Gioachino Rossini and the first interpreter of his most important titles; he is part of the legendary singers María Malibrán and Pauline Viardot-García, and also the progenitor of Manuel Patricio Rodríguez García, the most influential singer of the 19th and 20th centuries, both his figure and his work deserve to be an object. d'estudi i reconeixement”, he explained.
For now, the Arts program 'L'isola disabitata', a chamber opera—with a book by the poet Pietro Metastasio—conceived by four singers and piano accompaniment that García composed in 1831, a story about to die, which, thanks to Emilio Sagi, has returned to the theatre's repertoire espanyols.
The stage director, a native of Oviedo, directs this muntatge of the Teatre Arriaga in Bilbao in co-production with the Teatre de la Maestranza in Seville, with scenery by Daniel Bianco, costumes by Pepa Ojanguren and lighting by Albert Faura.
The artists of the Center for the Perfection of Arts form the artistic team of the production. With the pianist Carlos Sanchis in the musical accompaniment, Larisa Stefan (Costanza), Evgeniya Khomutova (Silvia), Jorge Franco (Gernando), Oleh Lebedyev and Max Hochmuth (Enrico) perform this one-act opera of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Salon opera
According to Emilio Sagi's mate, Manuel García will compose his latest 'L'isola disabitata'. The work is part of the cycle of ballroom operas that the Seville tenor will leave written during the period that he will be at the head of the respected school of singing in Paris.
The score, despite having been composed by its students, poses great difficulty for the singers, with pages of great intensity, "ries that recall Bellini, Donizetti or Rossini, the duos of the baritone and the 'mezzo' or a musical introduction with appearances of a grand overture."
The action of 'L'isola disabitata' takes place on a desert island where Gernando has brought his wife, Costanza, and his German wife, Silvia, to take refuge. One night, while they sleep, Gernando is secreted by some pirates. Their gifts were left abandoned to the lady sort in that lloc.
When planning the inn on stage, the stage director proposes a surgical muntatge, with little narration and realistic nature. "The one that will please me the most will be to think that an uninhabited island can be any other. We can all have our own island or at some point we will have felt that we live in one but we do not have any of our voluntarily soul," explains Sagi.
In this sense, the scenery designed by Daniel Bianco changes the vegetation and the rocks for cadires, “which are an everyday element”, while Pepa Ojanguren proposes a net and simple wardrobe, inspired by Adlib Eivissenca fashion.
In addition to the premiere of this show, February 13, Les Arts has scheduled two performances plus 'L'isola disabitata' on December 19 and 21, with two performances (16 and 24) reserved for the Didactic Program. The seats for this show have a single price of 35 euros .
Castelló i Alcoi
According to Jesús Iglesias Noriega, the Arts will continue this season with actions that allow the export of the program beyond the building designed by Santiago Calatrava in the autonomous vocation of the current artistic project.
Accordingly, the artists of the Center de Perfectionament and the technical team of the theater will travel to Castelló to offer an opera show. Next March 4, the Teatre Principal will host a performance of 'L'isola disabitata', both of which seek to expand the presence of the Arts in the capital of La Plana together with actions and consolidations such as the recitals of the Center of Perfection at the Museum of Fine Arts and the concerts of the Valencian Community Orchestra in l'Auditori.
Now, the Calderón d'Alcoi will become the first theater in the province of Alicante to host a performance of an Arts muntatge on March 7. The Alicante town, Valencian cultural capital of 2021, will host the cycle of performances of this opera by Manuel García.
