Valencia (7.4.25). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía has programmed in its 2025-2026 Season the first world premiere in its history: 'Enemy of the People' by Francisco Coll, the Valencian composer with the greatest international projection.

Les Arts will thus celebrate the twentieth anniversary of its inauguration with this commissioned opera, which will premiere in the Main Hall on November 6, 2025, in a new production by the Valencian arts center, made in co-production with the Teatro Real in Madrid.

The play, based on Henrik Ibsen's 'An Enemy of the People', features a script by Àlex Rigola, who also directs the production. Francisco Coll himself will conduct the music.

'Enemy of the People' will also be the first large-format opera by the Valencian composer, who already presented 'Café Kafka' at the Teatre Martín i Soler of Les Arts in 2016, his first foray into the genre.

Following 'Café Kafka', the relationship between Francisco Coll and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV) has been consolidated with the Spanish premiere of two works commissioned by Les Arts: 'Mural' in 2017 and, recently, 'Ciudad sin sueño', a fantasy for piano and orchestra that Javier Perianes and the OCV, under the direction of James Gaffigan, performed with great success at the Auditori de Les Arts in December 2024.

The Teatro Real in Madrid will perform 'Enemy of the People' in February 2026, as part of its upcoming season, as announced today at a press conference.
