Valencia (13.6.25). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía will become the benchmark for international opera with the celebration, from June 17 to 20, of the 18th edition of the Latin American Opera Assembly (OLA), which will have as its motto: 'Theaters: Audiences and ideas of the future'.
The more than 45 members of the Latin American Opera network – represented by directors, managers, artists, managers and specialists from Ibero-American organizations – along with experts linked to the creative industries, will meet for three days in Valencia to work on different areas of the management of theaters, festivals and companies and, in particular, to reflect on the contribution of the arts to sustainable development.
In this regard, the general manager of Les Arts, Jorge Culla, highlighted the opportunity that becoming the venue for an event of this magnitude represents for the Valencian opera house to consolidate its image on the international circuit.
“Associating 'Les Arts' with the exchange of ideas, innovative proposals, and outreach to new audiences, along with future-oriented and sustainable initiatives, provides unparalleled support for the management model the theater has developed in recent years. The 18th OLA Assembly represents a significant challenge for the institution, as well as an exciting project that will shape the strategies for the sector in the coming years,” he noted.
For her part, OLA's executive director, Paulina Ricciardi, maintains that this new edition of the conference continues the line of work that the network has been promoting since 2022 regarding the sustainable development of theaters, festivals and opera companies in Ibero-America.
“The 18th OLA Conference will be an opportunity to discuss and reflect on the role our organizations play in today’s society, this time focusing on artistic programming and the sustainable development of theaters, festivals, and companies. We will also include an internal focus on adapting to current challenges, such as female leadership and the professional development of those working in the performing arts. Finally, this meeting also reflects the current state of the organization, in which we are seeking to strengthen what has already been built and foster collaboration, exchange, and co-production, both among network members and with other partner institutions,” she stated.
' Theaters: Audiences and ideas of the future'.
Latin American Opera proposes a reflection on how to approach and value the work carried out by theaters and festivals in the face of the advances and the rethinking of ideas, tools and opportunities that the constant changes at the socio-economic, artistic and technological level imply.
This year, the OLA assembly will focus on the public and the various challenges and questions it raises: who is the programming for?, what is being programmed?, how can these decisions be made to be coherent and sustainable?, how should we communicate with the public today?, and, finally, what innovative models can serve as a benchmark for the future of the Ibero-American creative sector?
Sustainability will once again be a key focus of this edition, which will again incorporate the perspectives of public and private organizations, as well as introduce the environmental factor as a point of discussion through the 'Green Book for Theatres'. This manual will serve as a starting point for addressing the challenges that sustainability entails at the organizational, structural, and artistic levels.
The OLA 2025 Annual Conference program also includes a full agenda of activities, including the association's annual meeting, conferences, business meetings, visits to cultural spaces and participation in shows.
