After premiering his new production of 'Elektra' for Covent Garden in London, the German is now in Valencia to lead rehearsals for this co-production of Les Arts with the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Liceu in Barcelona and the Dresden Opera.
Loy has been chosen as director of the year on several occasions by the prestigious German magazine 'Opernwelt', as well as at the 2017 'International Opera Awards'. He has also received the coveted 'Lawrence Olivier' Award for his 'Tristan und Isolde' at Covent Garden in London (2010), in addition to the award for best production at the 2016 International Opera Awards for 'Peter Grimes' in Vienna and the Austrian 'Musikaltheaterpreis' in 2021 for his 'Così fan tutte' in Salzburg.

London, Berlin, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, Amsterdam and Madrid consider the German a safe bet for their new productions and his upcoming debuts in Milan (2024) and Paris (2025) await him, in addition to his first foray into Spanish opera with his performance in 2026 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela.
The Madrid premiere of this co-production of 'Rusalka', which Les Arts has produced with the Teatro Real, the Liceu in Barcelona and the Dresden Opera, marked one of the biggest operatic milestones in the Old Continent in 2020.
Multifaceted artist
Christof Loy combines his operatic facet with other creative projects in the stage field, such as his innovative proposals to transform various pieces of chamber music ('Romances', 'Lieder', 'mélodies') into theatrical pieces such as, for example, 'Tchaikovsky Evening' or recently 'Eine Winterreise' with Anne Sofie von Otter.
In 2021 he also made his first film work with the musical feature film 'Springtime in Amsterdam', for which he is director, screenwriter and responsible for the musical selection.
