María Toledo is already a global icon of modern flamenco. Born in Toledo, María Rodríguez del Álamo is an artist who "feels the cante and explores forms looking for the original sounds of the great flamenco singers", according to specialised critics. It is not surprising that she is the singer most in demand to interpret Falla's El amor brujo, which has brought her success in venues such as the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Barbican in London, the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid and the Philharmonie in Paris. She is also the first woman in the world of flamenco to sing accompanying herself on the piano. She has won numerous awards at flamenco festivals and biennials, such as Cante de las Minas and the Cádiz Biennial, and her discography includes six albums, the most recent being Ranchera flamenco, for which she has once again been nominated for a Latin Grammy.
