Considered by Riccardo Muti to be one of the most outstanding Verdi interpreters of today, the young Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili rose to fame after her successful Carmen alongside Kaufmann at La Scala in Milan in 2009, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. Since then, her triumphs have followed one another at the opera houses of Paris and Vienna, Covent Garden and the Metropolitan, performing roles that demand a powerful voice and a seductive timbre such as hers, including Santuzza, Amneris, Eboli and Dalila. In her recital repertoire, there is always room for songs by composers from her own cultural background, such as the Georgian Otar Taktakishvili and Rachmaninov, as well as Spanish and French composers such as Falla and Duparc.
