Valencia (April 8, 2026). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía will host the world premiere of Las hijas de Bernarda , the new creation by Taiat Dansa, next Friday, April 17, as part of the Les Arts 2025-2026 Season program and the current edition of the Dansa València festival.

The artistic director of Les Arts, Jesús Iglesias Noriega, the deputy director of Performing Arts of the IVC, María José Mora, and the directors of Taiat Dansa, Meritxell Barberá and Inma García, presented this show today at a press conference, which will be performed until April 19 at the Teatre Martín i Soler in the building designed by Santiago Calatrava.

The daughters of Bernarda is a production of Les Arts in co-production with Taiat Dansa, the Institut Valencià de Cultura - Dansa València and the Mercat de les Flors.

Jesús Iglesias Noriega has framed the collaboration between Les Arts and Dansa València within the commitment to establish synergies with the main assets of the cultural fabric of the Valencian Community.

In this regard, he also emphasized the importance of dance as one of the fundamental pillars of Les Arts, which, on the occasion of the institution's 20th anniversary, is offering its most ambitious program dedicated to this discipline since its inauguration, and is also launching a new initiative, Dance Fridays .

“Within Les Arts’ commitment to contemporary creation and to the creators of our territory, the world premiere of Las hijas de Bernarda culminates the commitment to the main references of dance in Spain with two of its main ambassadors on such an important anniversary for this theater.”

The daughters of Bernarda will be the fourth new dance production of Les Arts in the current artistic stage after Prometeo by Asun Noales (2025), Titanas by Sol Picó (2022) and Âtman, el comiat by Ananda Dansa (2020).

María José Mora, Deputy Director of Performing Arts at IVC and Director of Dansa València, has highlighted the importance of this co-production between the movement arts festival and the Palau de les Arts: “This collaboration allows us to combine resources and perspectives between two major cultural institutions, creating a framework of greater strength and visibility for companies in our region.”

Mora also highlighted the role of Dansa València as a professional platform: “The programming of Las hijas de Bernarda during the dates of the 39th edition of the festival facilitates its visibility in a context where national and international programmers and professionals converge, favoring its dissemination beyond our scope.”

A new challenge

Meritxell Barberá and Inma García conceived, directed, and choreographed Las hijas de Bernarda (The Daughters of Bernarda) . The production features set design by Alessio Meloni, lighting by Rodrigo Ortega, audiovisual creation by Sergi Palau, and costumes by Estudio Savage, texts by Paula Ortiz, dramaturgy by Roberto Frattini, and music by 'Caldo' David Barberá. It also includes the participation of bassist Miguel Villanueva and soprano Èlia Casanova, who specializes in Baroque and early music.

Lara Misó, Julia Cambra, Irene de la Rosa, Mariona Jaume Camps, Eila Vals, Wilma Puentes and Celia Sandoya make up the dance troupe.

Inma García and Meritxell Barberá take on a new challenge: to bring to life the bodies of Bernarda Alba's five daughters, staging their drama through choreography, live music, and documentary footage. The creators aim to explore a lyrical style imbued with mystery, powerful presence, and choreographic poetry, once again focusing on the women.

In his final literary creation, a masterpiece of world literature, Lorca tackles a passionate drama that reveals the disillusionment of a cursed era, a time of immense repression and absolute domination over women. Following their production of Judith , the founders of Taiat Dansa now invoke these five women, taking the audience on a journey through universal themes such as oppression, family tensions, social critique, and the struggle for freedom and identity.

In her piece, Taiat Dansa will not grant the mother the power to silence these five women, The Daughters of Bernarda .
