Valencia (26.3.26). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía premieres this coming Saturday, March 28, NumEros by the National Dance Company (CND): a dialogue with choreographic tradition through the creators George Balanchine, William Forsythe and Jacopo Godani, which will be accompanied by the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana under the musical direction of Manuel Coves.

NumEros is Muriel Romero's first original proposal at the helm of the company: a triple program consisting of Serenade , George Balanchine's iconic ballet created with the music of Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings and recovered from the repertoire of the CND's first artistic director, María de Ávila, and two new works: Echoes from a Restless Soul by Jacopo Godani and Playlist (Track 1, 2) by William Forsythe.

NumEros is a combination of two terms, Numen and Eros, in a certain sense opposite but which make up two central elements in the creation in dance: Numen as an intangible presence, poetic inspiration or immanent spirituality that transcends the will of the artist; and Eros as a desiring force, as a vital and creative impulse embodied in the body.

When both concepts meet, NumEros is born, a title that evokes the number as a principle of order, pattern and logic that shapes movement and proposes a dialogue with the choreographic tradition through three creators (Balanchine, Forsythe and Godani), who have addressed, from different aesthetics, the relationship between mathematical structure and body energy.

Balanchine conceived of dance as “architecture in motion,” integrating music and mathematics into the construction of gesture. Forsythe radicalized this vision, breaking down classical movement into vectors, trajectories, and geometric tensions. Godani, for his part, takes these premises to the extreme, creating compositions of great physical and visual power in which numerical rigor and visceral intensity coexist.

The Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana will perform Serenade in C major for string orchestra, Op. 48 by Tchaikovsky, a score on which George Balanchine created his ballet Serenade under the direction of Manuel Coves.

Les Arts reminds you that tickets for NumEros are available through the theater's various sales channels: box office, telephone sales line 96 197 59 00 and the official Les Arts website.
