The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía inaugurates the seventh edition of the Les Arts és Lied series this Sunday, November 16, with a performance by Michael Spyres in the Main Hall (7:00 p.m.). The leading tenor of the moment returns to Valencia with a captivating program featuring works by Beethoven, Liszt, Mahler, and Wagner, accompanied on piano by Mathieu Pordoy.

Winner of the 2023 International Opera Award for Best Male Singer, Michael Spyres is one of the leading stars of the current operatic scene. Capable of effortlessly tackling everything from the lowest to the highest registers, his outstanding vocal technique, unique timbre, and expressiveness have made him one of the most admired performers by audiences.

Spyres, who debuted at Les Arts in 2020 under the direction of Marc Minkowski in Mitridate, re di Ponto , proposes for his Lied recital some of the most significant works of the genre, with special attention to the German repertoire, for which he has garnered applause in his most recent performances at the Bayreuth Festival and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte — considered the first cycle of Lieder in history — will open the evening, followed by Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder , a key piece in the evolution of the genre, originally written for female voice and exceptionally incorporated into the repertoire of great Wagnerian performers.

Spyres will dedicate the final part of the recital to two works of great emotional intensity: Liszt's Tre sonetti del Petrarca and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen by a young Mahler.

Les Arts reminds everyone that tickets for Michael Spyres' recital this Sunday can be purchased through the theater's various sales channels: box offices, the sales line 96 197 59 00 and the Les Arts website.
