The creation of a world-class orchestra is one of the top priorities set by the board of trustees of the Palau de les Arts Foundation of the Valencian Community, aiming to achieve artistic excellence and attract the most prestigious conductors from around the globe. The orchestra will initially consist of 90 musicians.

The aim of the Palau de les Arts management is to prioritize, all other things being equal, the presence of Valencian musicians in the orchestra, in accordance with the guidelines of the Fundació Palau de les Arts' statutes to promote the culture and musicians of the Valencian Community. This intention is not incompatible with the desire to create an orchestra of the highest international quality, given the rich and varied Valencian musical heritage.

Preliminary phase and audition phase

The selection process will be carried out through the evaluation, in a preliminary phase, of curricular merits and a musical recording of the candidate performing the instrument to which he aspires, made by a Jury created expressly and a subsequent phase of auditions or tests.

The Tribunal for the tests appointed by the Palau de les Arts, will issue a resolution from September 15th declaring the list of admitted and excluded candidates approved, which will be made public on the aforementioned website.

The in-person auditions for the selected candidates will take place from October 10, 2005, immediately following the Royal Presentation Gala, and will continue until February 2006. Lorin Maazel, as Music Director, will open the audition process.

Musicians who join the orchestra will do so as staff members of the Palau de les Arts “Reina Sofía”, Fundació de la Comunidad Valenciana, with the category of Orchestra Professor.

For the purposes of communications and other matters, the Court will be based at the Palau de les Arts “Reina Sofía”, Avd. Autopista del Saler 1. E-46013 Valencia, telephone +34902100823, fax: +34902100826 and email address: orquesta@www.lesarts.com

The Palau de les Arts “Reina Sofía” Orchestra, due to its high technical and artistic level, will be conducted by the best international conductors of today and aims to become the cultural ambassador of the Valencian Community, through tours throughout Spain and abroad.
