- The OCV joins the Bruckner Year celebrations with his last and unfinished symphony, a piece never before seen in the ensemble's repertoire.
- The musical director of Les Arts also proposes Schubert's 'Tragic Symphony', another key work of Romanticism for its beauty and expressiveness.
Valencia (15.2.24). James Gaffigan conducts the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV) in a program featuring works by Schubert and Bruckner, which will be performed this Saturday, February 17th at the Auditori del Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía (7:00 pm) and on Sunday the 18th at the Auditori de Castellón (7:30 pm).
The principal conductor of Les Arts dedicates his last symphonic performance of the 2023-2024 Season to German Romanticism, a favorite repertoire for the OCV, with which the public will be able to enjoy its powerful and brilliant sound, as well as hear two works never before performed by the ensemble.
As the evening begins, James Gaffigan, along with the OCV, delves into the early romanticism of Franz Schubert and his 'Symphony No. 4 'The Tragic', in which, despite its nickname, under the influences of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, the vitality and lyricism of a young Schubert of barely 19 years old, who unfortunately would never see the premiere of his work, pulsate.
Within the common thread of the current symphonic season that Les Arts has dedicated to the twilight works of the great composers, the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana joins the celebrations of the bicentenary of the birth of Anton Brucker with his last and unfinished 'Symphony No. 9, in D minor'.
The audience at the Valencian auditorium will hear for the first time the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana perform one of the most impressive, complex and challenging works in the entire repertoire of one of the last representatives of Austro-German Romanticism.
Breathtaking and monumental, of profound beauty and spirituality, the Austrian composer left as a posthumous legacy a powerful display of his compositional virtuosity.
Les Arts reports that the last tickets for this Saturday's concert are still on sale.
