Throughout his career, conductor Lorin Maazel has led the opera Don Giovanni five times in major opera houses around the world, the upcoming production at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía. Specifically, the American conductor assumed musical responsibility for Mozart's work in New York, Vienna, La Scala in Milan, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and for Joseph Losey's successful film of the same title.
The Palau de les Arts' next opera production will hold its dress rehearsal next Thursday, December 14, in the Main Hall of the coliseum.
Given the impossibility of using the entire stage after the breakdown on Saturday, December 2, stage director Jonathan Miller will rethink Don Giovanni, adapting it to the new circumstances of the Main Hall, without scenery, with an essentialized concept and using costumes, props and lighting.
For this reason, the Palau de les Arts will offer the possibility of refunding the money to subscribers and the public who have purchased tickets for the premiere of Don Giovanni on December 16.
Those wishing to take advantage of this option, both subscribers and the general public, must appear at the box office of the coliseum with the purchase documentation before December 14th in order to put on sale the seats that may be released due to returns and at the same time satisfy the high demand for opera that has been reflected in long queues in recent months.
For the remaining performances of Don Giovanni, information regarding refund deadlines will be provided.
The box office is open Monday to Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on performance days three hours before the show.
The opera Don Giovanni, which comes to Valencia to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, will be performed on the scheduled dates in its six performances: December 16, 19, 22, 26, 28 and 30.
The title role of Don Giovanni at the Palau de les Arts will be sung by bass Erwin Schortt (Don Giovanni), who recently performed this role at La Scala in Milan.
