The Valencian soprano Ana María Sánchez will give a recital on May 11 at the Palau de les Arts with a program of universal Spanish and Italian composers, accompanied on the piano by Alejandro Zabala.
The recital by Ana María Sánchez, one of the best Spanish sopranos of the moment, will take a journey through chamber music works by Italian opera composers such as Bellini, Verdi and Puccini as well as concert songs by universal Spanish authors such as Granados, Turina and Montsalvatge.
This recital replaces the one scheduled in the Great Soloists Subscription Series at the coliseum for December 4th by the Italian soprano Barbara Frittoli, which was cancelled due to the artist's indisposition.
Ana María Sánchez, who played the lead role in the zarzuela La Bruja hosted by the Palau de les Arts, studied singing at the Oscar Esplá Higher Conservatory of Music in Alicante with soprano Dolores Pérez.
Some of his most recent performances include the Verdi Marathon at the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight; a concert tour with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony conducted by Myung-Whun Cheng; Verdi's Requiem in A Coruña; Don Giovanni at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Simon Boccanegra in Oviedo.
Ana María Sánchez, who has sung in the best opera houses in the world, is also a highly regarded singer in the field of concerts and recitals.
Great Soloists Cycle
The Great Soloists Cycle at the Palau de les Arts is completed by the recital of Olga Borodina and Ildar Abdrazakov with Orchestra (February 21) and that of Juan Diego Flórez with piano (May 2) in addition to the one held on November 5 with Waltraud Meier, Petra-Maria Schinitzer, Matti Salminen and Peter Seiffert.
Olga Borodina, one of today's most admired mezzo-sopranos, and bass Ildar Abdrazakov will perform on February 21st in a concert featuring the repertoire that has made them internationally renowned, with Russian music playing a significant role. They will be accompanied by the Palau de les Arts Orchestra.
Peruvian singer Juan Diego Flórez, who will give a recital on May 2nd, is considered by Luciano Pavarotti himself to be his successor and, despite his youth, is already a legend of the contemporary stage. A sought-after figure by the world's finest theaters, he uses his style and voice to recapture the very essence of the delicate art of bel canto.
