The President of the Generalitat, Francisco Camps, stated today in Venice that “with much effort and dedication, the Valencian Community is consolidating itself as one of the international benchmarks in the world of opera and major orchestras, with the possibility of performing in any major theater or auditorium in the world.”
The President, who made these statements after the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Palau de les Arts and the Teatro la Fenice in Venice, indicated that this joint work is "a complete success" for Valencia.

In this regard, he explained that the Palau and La Fenice will work together on the production of operas, such as the Árbol de Diana by Martín i Soler, a Valencian composer who triumphed in Italy in the 18th century, as well as on the co-production of Baroque operas for their presentation in Valencia.

Regarding the concert given last night in Venice by the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana, Francisco Camps said he was very satisfied "because the knowledgeable and exquisite public of Venice gave our orchestra a huge ovation, which is the best reward to continue working on this project."

The President of the Valencian Government acknowledged the outstanding work carried out by Santiago Calatrava in the construction of the Palau de les Arts as "the great opera house." He also highlighted the contributions of Helga Schmidt, Lorin Maazel, and Zubin Mehta in developing a top-tier program.

Finally, the President thanked the superintendent of La Fenice for the attention shown "for having opened the doors of one of the most important opera houses in the world to the Orquesta de la Comunitat Valenciana, which already has an international dimension."

Collaboration agreement between the Palau de les Arts and the La Fenice Theatre Foundation

The project aims to foster collaboration in the fields of opera, musical theatre, dance, musical theatre and symphonic music, as well as art exhibitions and documentaries related to topics of common interest.

With this agreement, La Fenice and the Palau de les Arts intend to strengthen their collaboration to enhance the musical heritage of Venice and the Valencian Community.

Thus, the agreement plans to prioritize works by renowned Valencian composers such as Vicente Martín y Soler, as well as Venetian operatic productions from the 17th and 18th centuries.

This collaboration includes, among other things, co-productions or reciprocal rentals of their respective productions, the exchange of stage shows and symphonic concerts, ballets or musical theatre, as well as the provision of materials and works of art for exhibitions and cultural events.

Goals

Under this agreement, the Palau and La Fenice will jointly define the timing and methods of collaboration for each premiere.

Both institutions will organize, within the first half of each year, a meeting between their respective departments to coordinate joint projects, define budgets and the way in which they will be carried out.

They also declare their shared interest in extending collaboration between the two institutions to internationally renowned musical and cultural institutions on specific projects.

Finally, the Palau and La Fenice agree to implement each of the projects described in this protocol, as well as any others that may arise from common interest, in subsequent specific agreements.

International projection of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía

The Consell is constantly promoting the international projection of the Palau de les Arts, as well as strengthening collaborations with other cultural institutions at this level.

In this regard, it should be noted that in April 2005 the President, together with tenor Plácido Domingo, presented the Palau de les Arts at the Cervantes Institute in New York.

Subsequently, in November 2005, President Camps met in New York with the director of the Metropolitan Opera House, Peter Gelb. During the meeting, they agreed to promote joint collaborative projects, specifically operatic and symphonic co-productions.

In December of that same year, the head of the Consell traveled to London where he presented the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, with the aim of disseminating and explaining among the main British opinion makers the opportunities and cultural attractions that the Palau de les Arts opened up.

Furthermore, another key objective during this official trip was to secure operatic co-productions with the British opera house.

With the same objectives as at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, President Camps traveled to the Palais Garnier in Paris in February 2006.

In November 2006, President Camps held a meeting with Princess Korina of Russia and Valeri Abisalovich Gergiev, general director of the Mariinsky Theatre, which promoted and strengthened relations between the Palau de les Arts and the Russian institution, and thus proposed collaborations and co-productions between both theatres in the immediate future.
