The Perico Sambeat Quintet will inaugurate the "Jazz in Valencia" series next Friday, January 11, at 8:30 p.m. in the Aula Magistral of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía. Following Perico Sambeat's successful performance last season, which marked the auditorium's first foray into this genre, the Palau de les Arts has programmed a series of jazz concerts that also includes performances by Daniel Flors Group Therapy and Ximo Tébar & Ivam Jazz Ensemble.
As part of its policy of affordable prices, the coliseum has set a single price of 15 euros for each concert.

The Perico Sambeat Quintet is led by Valencian native Perico Sambeat, considered Spain's most internationally renowned saxophonist. The group also includes Bernardo Sassetti (piano), Javier Colina (double bass), Marc Miralta (drums), and Ángel “Cepillo” (cajón).

For the concert this coming Friday, the band will perform a repertoire consisting of the following songs: Iris, De camino, Diddi, Olhail-luz del sur, Actors, Nido del aire and ¿Lo pillas?.

Perico Sambeat Quintet primarily performs original compositions by Perico Sambeat, as well as jazz standards and traditional Latin music.

Despite being clearly rooted in the jazz tradition, the music they make contains influences from contemporary music, African music, and flamenco.

Among the numerous recordings the group has participated in, Perico Sambeat's album for Lola Records stands out. Perico Sambeat has also played alongside giants such as Lee Konitz, Jimmy Cobb, and Joe Chambers.

Leading figures of jazz

The Palau de les Arts has brought together leading figures from the jazz scene for the "Jazz in Valencia" series, the first that the auditorium has dedicated to this genre of music. Fellow Valencians Daniel Flors and Ximo Tèbar join Perico Sambeat in this initiative by the venue to encompass all musical styles.

The second performance in this series, to be held in the Aula Magistral of the Palau de les Arts, will take place on March 13th and will feature Daniel Flors, another leading figure on the Valencian jazz scene. The Daniel Flors Group Therapy will present a performance entitled LifeLike.

Finally, guitarist Ximo Tébar, one of the leading figures in the European jazz elite, along with the Ivam Jazz Ensemble, will be in charge of closing the cycle with Steps on April 18.

With this series of concerts, the Palau de les Arts reinforces its commitment to offering a versatile and varied program in order to reach all types of audiences.
