The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía is hosting two symphonic concerts this week by the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana under the musical direction of Lorin Maazel as part of the Auditori hall's program.
The first concert, Messa da Requiem, will be performed twice, on March 28 and 30, featuring renowned soloists such as bass René Pape and soprano Micaela Carosi, accompanied by Elena Maximota and Vittorio Grigolo. The Cor de la Generalitat will also participate, facing a significant challenge due to the scale of Verdi's composition.
The Requiem is one of the great works of the lyric-symphonic repertoire of the universal Italian composer, which premiered on May 22, 1874 in the church of San Marco in Milan, under the direction of Verdi himself.
Concert with Ofelia Sala
Between the two performances of the Requiem, the Auditori at the Palau de les Arts will host a new concert on March 29th, featuring the renowned Valencian soprano Ofelia Sala and conducted by Lorin Maazel. This concert, originally scheduled for March 14th, was postponed due to Maestro Maazel's illness.
The program includes Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4 as well as Richard Strauss's Four Lieder Op. 68 Der Rosenkavalier (Suite).
The Palau de les Arts brings together on this occasion, to perform works by two of the greatest composers in the history of music, one of the best conductors of the moment, Lorin Maazel, with the most international of the Valencian sopranos and considered a specialist in the German repertoire, Ofelia Sala, who returns to the coliseum after her successful lieder recital last year.
This concert will be repeated on the 31st at the Castellón Auditorium as part of the Palau de les Arts' mission to bring the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and its music director, Lorin Maazel, closer to the people of the three provinces of the Valencian Community. The event commemorates the 85th anniversary of the Castellón Philharmonic Society.
Ofelia Sala has performed in productions at the world's best opera houses, such as La Scala in Milan, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, in addition to having worked with the most prestigious musical directors in the world, including Riccardo Muti and Lorin Maazel.
