The Palau de les Arts concludes its staged readings of Così fan tutte tomorrow
04.03.2009
The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía concludes tomorrow, with the last educational performance, the dramatized readings of the libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera Così fan tutte.
To coincide with the performance of this masterpiece in the Main Hall, the Palau de les Arts has programmed this co-production between the Valencian opera house and the School of the Actor in the Aula Magistral these days.
This is a free adaptation of the text by Lorenzo Da Ponte, directed by the Valencian Andrés Poveda, which allows one to enjoy the literary quality of the work that represented the third and last collaboration between the librettist and official poet of the court of Emperor Joseph II and the Austrian composer.
According to Andrés Poveda, this version respects Da Ponte's original text, translated into Spanish by Anselmo Alonso, to which current idiomatic expressions, a new character, and elements of modern theater have been added in order to bring the wit and hilarity with which the Italian librettist addresses the infidelity of the main couples in Naples at the end of the 18th century closer to younger viewers.
More than 1,500 secondary school students
As part of its commitment to bringing opera closer to younger audiences, the Palau de les Arts has programmed three educational performances of the dramatized reading of Così fan tutte within its educational project, which have been attended by more than 1,500 students from 25 Secondary Education Institutes in the Valencian Community.
In the lead-up to their visit to Calatrava's iconic building to attend the performance, the students analyze the music, text, and composer's work at their schools with their teachers and a study guide provided by the Department of Dramaturgy, Publications, and Education at the Palau de les Arts. After each performance, the actors and the stage director hold a discussion with the students, allowing them to ask questions and share their opinions about the work.
