Valencia (29-06-08).- Students from the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo will offer a series of lyrical evenings at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía on July 1, 2 and 3 at 8:00 p.m.
The Plácido Domingo Centre for Advanced Studies at the Palau de les Arts aims to provide young singers and musicians with training that reflects the current professional realities of the opera world. The Centre's artistic director is the Italian maestro Alberto Zedda, whose experience as an orchestra conductor, music organizer, philologist, and teacher makes him a leading authority and a guarantee of a comprehensive understanding of training and the artistic profession in the world of theater and music.
The Centre de Perfeccionament is, along with those in Los Angeles and Washington, the third center sponsored by Plácido Domingo for the promotion of young talents.
The students will present a program of excerpts from some of the most well-known works at their debut concert on Wednesday, July 1st. Operas such as Verdi's La Traviata, Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, Massenet's Manon, Puccini's La Bohème, Mozart's Idomeneo, and Donizetti's La Favorita, as well as zarzuelas like La Tempranica by Giménez, La Marchenera by Moreno Torroba, and Las hijas de Zebedeo by Chapí, will make up the repertoire with which these talented young musicians from the Centre de Perfeccionament will perform for the first time before the Valencian public.
Also, on the occasion of the Albéniz Year, which commemorates the centenary of the death of the great Spanish composer and pianist, and the Rodrigo Year, which celebrates the tenth anniversary of the death of the Valencian, the evenings of July 2 and 3 will consist of a program in homage to these two figures in the history of Spanish music.
Admission to this series will be free until the hall reaches capacity. Tickets will be distributed to subscribers on the 29th and 30th. The public can collect their tickets on the day of the performance at the Palau de les Arts box office during its regular hours, from 12:00 to 20:00. A maximum of two tickets per person will be distributed.
Project Sipario
Within its international vocation, the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo develops international projects financed by the European Social Fund, which allow the Valencian center to be linked with other training centers in Europe.
In this regard, the Generalitat signed an agreement on May 9, 2008 with the governments of the Italian regions of Lazio, Marche, Veneto and Umbria with the aim of promoting a training and exchange offer between students of these cities in different theaters and artistic realities.
As part of the Sipario Project, on June 19th and 20th, the Plácido Domingo Centre for Advanced Studies hosted students enrolled in the opera singer and vocal coach courses from Treviso, Italy. The Italian students also had the opportunity to meet with Maestro Plácido Domingo on June 20th. This visit marked the first instance of exchange between the Valencian Community and the Italian regions participating in the project.
