Valencia (06-04-10). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía production of the opera Una cosa rara will be presented on April 14 at the Teatro Calderón in Valladolid.

The work of Valencian Vicente Martín i Soler, staged by Francisco Negrín, will also be programmed on the 16th and 18th of this month.

This is the first production by the Valencia-born composer that the Palau de les Arts has exported to another opera house. "Una cosa rara" will also be released in High Definition through Unitel, as part of the opera house's project to recover and promote the work of Martín i Soler following the success of the DVD release of "L'arbore di Diana."

Singers from the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo make up the majority of the cast in this production. Dolores Lahuerta (Isabella, Queen of Spain), Javier Tomé (Corrado), Isaac Galán (Lubino), and Lluís Martínez-Agudo (Tita) join Joel Prieto (Giovanni, Prince of Spain), María Hinojosa (Lilla), and Marta Ubieta (Ghita).

The modern and 'comedic' interpretation proposed by the prestigious stage director Francisco Negrín garnered critical acclaim at its premiere at the Teatre Martín i Soler of the Palau de les Arts. Negrín advocates combining elements of reality shows and films like The Truman Show with parameters of Baroque theater.

Vicente Martín i Soler Promotion

Furthermore, as Mayor Helga Schmidt announced at the time, Valeri Gergiev, director of the Mariinsky Theatre, will include the Valencian productions of L'arbore di Diana and Una cosa rara in the repertoire of the St. Petersburg opera house.

Furthermore, thanks to the agreement signed with the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the operas by Martín i Soler produced by the Valencian arts center will also be performed at the Teatro Malibran in the Italian city.

Plácido Domingo himself, as Helga Schmidt pointed out, has expressed his interest in including these operas among the titles that the Los Angeles Opera will offer in the coming seasons.
