Valencia (January 18, 2011) – Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez has sold out all tickets for his recital this coming Sunday, January 23, at the Auditori of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía. The arts center reports that only 5 percent of the auditorium's capacity remains available for purchase on the day of the performance.
Juan Diego Flórez is considered one of the world's finest tenors, as well as the most outstanding bel canto singer of our time. Figures of the stature of Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo have praised the talent of the Lima-born singer, who declares himself a great admirer of Alfredo Kraus.
For his fourth recital at the Palau de les Arts, Flórez has chosen a varied program with works by Mozart, Rossini, Serrano, Pérez Soriano, Calleja y Barrera, Luis Prado and Verdi.
Juan Diego Flórez, accompanied on the piano by Vincenzo Scalera, will begin the evening with arias from Mozart's La clemenza di Tito . Next, the tenor will perform Rossini's songs such as, La gita in gondola, La promessa and Tirana alla spagnola . After a piano interlude by Vincenzo Scalera, the tenor will conclude this first part with ' Cessa di più resistere' from Il barbiere di Siviglia .
After the intermission, the Peruvian singer will resume the recital with three zarzuela pieces: "Aquí está quien lo tiene tó" from Serrano's *La alegría del batallón*, "Suena guitarrico mío" from Pérez Soriano's *El guitarrico*, and " Adiós Granada, Granada mía" from Barrera and Calleja's *Emigrantes*. Flórez will also delve into contemporary vocal music with three songs by the Puerto Rican composer Luis Prado. As a grand finale, the tenor will sing the aria "Pietoso al lungo pianto" from * Un giorno di regno* , one of Verdi's lesser-known operas.
