Valencia (07/30/24). The Valencian Community Orchestra (OCV) and its musical director James Gaffigan will visit the towns of Santander, Pollença and Soria in the coming months.
The American maestro is currently preparing the program with which the Les Arts resident company will inaugurate the Santander International Festival on August 3, one of the most prestigious and traditional events on the summer music circuit, which brings together many of the leading artists and groups on the international scene.
James Gaffigan and the OCV propose an evening dedicated entirely to works by Russian composers, one of the favorite repertoires of the group and its director, with which they have achieved undeniable successes this season such as 'The Queen of Spades' or 'The Pathétique' by Tchaikovsky.
During their visit to the Cantabrian town, they will be accompanied by soprano Aida Garifullina, one of the most sought-after divas today, who, during the first part, will perform opera arias and Slavic songs by composers such as Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff.
As the closing of the program, Gaffigan and the OCV propose a selection of movements from the 'suites' that Sergei Prokofiev orchestrated from the music for his ballet 'Romeo and Juliet', with which the New Yorker and the Les Arts orchestra gave one of their most acclaimed concerts at the Auditori last season.
After the summer break, the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and James Gaffigan will also be the protagonists of two other unmissable events for music lovers.
On August 30, James Gaffigan and the OCV will visit Mallorca to close the 63rd edition of the Pollença Festival with an evening concert in the privileged setting of the Cloister of San Domingo, the venue for this renowned event and also one of the jewels of national baroque architecture.
On the music stand are Beethoven's 'Leonore Overture No. 3', Brahms' 'Third' Symphony and Jean Sibelius' 'Violin Concerto in D minor', with virtuoso Sergey Khachatryan as soloist.
Days later, the Les Arts resident orchestra and its director will be in charge of opening the program of the XXXII Soriano Musical Autumn, on September 5, with the renowned pianist Javier Perianes as soloist.
For this occasion, in addition to Brahms' Third Symphony and the Leonore Overture, the program includes Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, one of the most intense and dramatic pieces, for which Perianes has received the highest praise from the specialized press.
