Christian Vásquez is one of the rising stars of Venezuela's National System of Youth and Children's Orchestras. The project, sponsored by musician and economist José Antonio Abreu, aims to foster the integration and personal development of Venezuelan children and young people through orchestra and choir. The Venezuelan maestro is also principal guest conductor of the Gävle Symphony Orchestra in Sweden. In 2013, he will become the new music director of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in Norway.

Among his most important performances are The Firebird with the Radio France Philharmonic, subscription concerts at the Salle Pleyel with violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann, Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 with the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, and six concerts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, at the invitation of Zubin Mehta. He has also conducted the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa (with Pinchas Zukerman as soloist), the Orchestre National du Capitole in Toulouse, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, the Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic (within its program for young artists).

Future engagements include performances with the Israel, Monte Carlo and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestras, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Residentie, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the UK's Northern Sinfonia, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Salzburg Camerata and the Toulouse Orchestra.
