Valencia (5.10.24). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía has been awarded the bronze medal of Penitentiary Institutions for its 'Les Arts és Inclusió' initiative, which it has been developing since 2022, with a comprehensive artistic and educational program in collaboration with the penitentiary centers of the Valencian Community.

The artistic director of Les Arts, Jesús Iglesias Noriega, received this distinction during the celebrations of the Day of Our Lady of Mercy, patron saint of Penitentiary Institutions, in which this line of work of Les Arts to enhance the social value of culture and its role as an integrating element and personal development for those groups who, due to their situation, lack the opportunities to access it, has been recognized.

In these two years, the artists of the Centre de Perfeccionament de Les Arts and the teachers of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV) have visited the CP of Valencia (Picassent), Castellón II (Albocàsser) and Alicante II (Villena) with varied proposals, which have included opera and zarzuela recitals, as well as OCV concerts in chamber ensemble.

'Les Arts és Inclusió' also offers educational workshops held both in the opera house and in the prison itself, as well as guided tours of the monumental building by Santiago Calatrava and attendance at a concert in its Main Hall.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Justice and the Interior, Salomé Pradas, and the director of the Picassent penitentiary, Jesús Sánchez-Gadeo.
