Valencia (08.10.24). The prestigious British conductor Sir Mark Elder opens this week with Mahler's 'Sixth' the subscription symphony season of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana in Castelló de la Plana (October 10) and Valencia (October 11).

For his highly anticipated third concert with the resident orchestra of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, the conductor emeritus of the Manchester Hallé Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic has chosen this work - new to the OCV repertoire - recognized as one of the greatest artistic challenges for a symphony orchestra and its conductor.

The 'Symphony No. 6', also known as 'The Tragic', demands profound knowledge as well as a highly skilled instrumental ensemble. Following his acclaimed performances in Valencia of works by Shostakovich, Strauss, Stravinsky, and Mahler's unfinished 'Tenth', the British conductor and renowned Mahlerian delves into this score of immense complexity and emotional depth.

Foreshadowing the tragic events that would so emotionally affect the Bohemian-born composer, as prophesied by the powerful hammer blows heard in the Finale, Mahler's 'Tragic' captivates the listener with its profound and moving exploration of the human experience.

Sir Mark Elder will conduct the OCV with this program on Thursday, October 10, at the Auditori i Palau de Congressos in Castelló and, subsequently, on Friday the 11th at the Auditori de Les Arts.

Beginning of the Castelló Auditorium season

Specifically, the concert on Thursday, October 10, kicks off the autumn subscription program of the 24/25 season at the Auditori de Castelló, which will be nearly full to welcome the OCV.

It is worth noting that the Castellón audience will once again be able to enjoy the OCV to close out the year. Specifically, on December 21st, under the baton of James Gaffigan and with the renowned pianist Javier Perianes as soloist, presenting 'Ciutats, sommis i poemes'.

A program that includes, among other pieces, the Spanish premiere of 'City Without Sleep' by F. Coll. A work commissioned by the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofia, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonierorchester Basel.

Tickets for both concerts are priced between 10 and 20 euros. They can be purchased at the box office and on the IVC website.
