Valencia (30-12-12).- The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía has received applause from local, national and international critics for its production of La Bohème, by Giacomo Puccini.
Riccardo Chailly, in his operatic debut in Spain, conducted the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and the Cor de la Generalitat in this production by Turin native Davide Livermore, for which tickets were sold out for all performances this December.
International critics have praised the exceptionally high level of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and the masterful conducting of Maestro Chailly. The Austrian newspaper Die Presse, in its review, highlights the quality of the Palau de les Arts' resident orchestra, which, it explains, "emerged as the star of the evening, an ensemble that has no reason to fear comparisons with those of the most prestigious opera houses."
For its part, the Italian Corriere della Sera praises Riccardo Chailly's direction of the OCV for offering "a Bohème of great beauty, an original and unprecedented fusion of Italian, French and German styles."
The classical music website Seen and Heard also highlights the excellence of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and the Cor de la Generalitat, in a musical version "of exceptional energy and fluidity".
The C Major label will market the recording of this work at the Palau de les Arts in the coming months.
La Bohème thus expands the catalog of DVD and Blu-ray productions of the Valencian arts center, which includes Fidelio, by Beethoven; Cyrano de Bergerac, by Alfano; Turandot, by Puccini; the four titles that make up Der Ring des Nibelungen (Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung), by Wagner; L'arbore di Diana, by Martín i Soler; El rey que rabió, by Chapí; Les Troyens, by Berlioz; and La vida breve, by Falla.
To date, the Palau de les Arts' forays into the audiovisual market have earned the highest accolades from the specialized press, among which those awarded to Der Ring des Nibelungen stand out.
The recording of Wagner's Ring boasts an Echo Klassik award for best DVD of 2010 and two awards from the German Record Critics Association, as well as the award for Best DVD at the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA).
The Milanese Riccardo Chailly joins with La Bohème the list of great batons in the video collection of the Valencian arts center, which includes Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta and Valeri Guérguiev.
