Plácido Domingo, Muhai Tang and Omer Meir Wellber headline the symphonic offerings for the month of January at the Palau de les Arts

- The Valencian arts center hosts the Spanish debut of the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra
Valencia (4-1-13).- Plácido Domingo, Omer Meir Wellber and Muhai Tang headline the symphonic offering for the month of January at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía.
The Valencian arts center begins the celebrations of the bicentenary of the births of Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901) and Richard Wagner (1813-1883).
On January 12th, the artist will conduct the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana in a concert featuring the overtures to Verdi's operas La forza del destino , Aida , Nabucco , the ballet Macbeth , and I Vespri Siciliani , as well as Wagner's Rienzi and Der Fliegende Holländer . In his tribute to Richard Wagner, Domingo has also included Siegfried Idyll , one of the German composer's few symphonic works. This concert is part of the commemorative events marking the 30th anniversary of the Statute of Autonomy of the Valencian Community.
Plácido Domingo presents this same program on the 11th at the Alicante Provincial Council Auditorium (ADDA) and on the 28th at the Castelló Auditorium.
Later, on January 24, Domingo will perform in Valencia, adding a new baritone role to his repertoire. The artist makes his European debut as Francesco Foscari in the co-production of Verdi's I due Foscari , a collaboration between the Palau de les Arts, Los Angeles Opera, London's Covent Garden, and Austria's Theater an der Wien.
Debut of the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra
On January 18, the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Muhai Tang, will present a program featuring works by Chinese composers and Beethoven's Seventh Symphony . This marks the orchestra's first visit to Spain following an extensive European tour that included performances in Vienna, Prague, Brussels, Berlin, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Verona, and Turin.
Muhai Tang, who began his international career in 1983 when Herbert von Karajan invited him to conduct the Berlin Philharmonic, has worked with the main ensembles of the European continent, including the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Dresden Staatskapelle, as well as the Sydney (Australia) and San Francisco (United States) symphony orchestras.
Tang is currently principal conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic and principal guest conductor of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, as well as honorary conductor of the China Symphony Orchestra and artistic director of the Shanghai Philharmonic and the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra.
Omer Meir Wellber, who will conduct Plácido Domingo in I due Foscari , his second Verdi opera this season, closes the symphonic offering for January.
On the 26th, the OCV's principal conductor will perform the opening of Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber, Symphony No. 4 by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, and Symphony No. 4 by Robert Schumann in his first concert of this season.
Arts for everyone
Also, on Thursday, January 10, the arts center continues with the initiative of the extraordinary sales days 'Les Arts per a tots', within the program 'Palau de les Arts: A space for all audiences'.
Holders of the Youth Card, the International Student Card (ISIC), the Large Family title, people who are unemployed or have a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33%, and retirees over 65 years of age and pensioners holding the Cultural Card of the Valencian Government, will be able to enjoy a 50% discount on tickets for any of the symphonic concerts scheduled for the month of January.
