Valencia (20.10.24). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía begins its first session of the 'Les Arts és Flamenco' cycle with a performance by José Mercé, who will present his latest album, 'El Oripandó', next Saturday, October 26, in the Auditori (7:00 pm).
After his debut in this cycle in 2020, the artist from Cadiz once again includes Valencia as an essential stop on his new tour, in which, in addition to performing the eight songs from his most recent album, he reviews the main styles of flamenco.
'El Oripandó' is José Mercé's twentieth LP; a creation with a distinctly biographical character, to which he dedicated three years of his life. Based on the canons of flamenco, it is, nevertheless, an avant-garde work, featuring Antonio Orozco as composer, producer, and director.
Mercé proposes an intimate dialogue in eight songs with an unequivocal flamenco substrate that overflow formal, generic and sonic frameworks: extensive compositions of progressive tone, ballads, old forge songs joining hands with rap, electronic patterns approaching rock and existential laments wrapped in symphonic orchestra.
With the concert by José Mercé, Les Arts begins the fifth and most ambitious edition of 'Les Arts és Flamenco', which will bring together in Valencia legendary figures of flamenco singing along with the new artists with the most soul on the music scene: Israel Fernández (November 23, 2024), Mayte Martín (December 13, 2024), Antonio Reyes and Jesús Méndez (February 21, 2025), El Pele (April 24, 2025) and Reyes Carrasco (May 23, 2025).
