The Plácido Domingo Perfection Center presents its fourth promotion of artists with Così fan tutte, by Mozart

15.06.2013

The Centre de Perfeccionament will hold new auditions for solo singers on the 25th and 26th.

Valencia. The Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo presents its fourth class of artists with a new production of Così fan tutte , by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which premieres on June 26 at the Teatre Martín i Soler of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía.

The Valencian arts center dedicates this work, which will also be performed on the 28th and 30th of this month, to the recently deceased conductor Colin Davis, considered one of the leading figures in the Mozartian repertoire.

Così fan tutte marks the second foray of this project into the so-called Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy, which arises from the collaboration of the Salzburg composer with the successful librettist from Treviso, Lorenzo Da Ponte, after achieving success in 2011 with Le nozze di Figaro with stage direction by Ruggero Raimondi.

Marco Guidarini, musical director, and Isabel Hindersin, responsible for the staging, are finalizing rehearsals for this opera, whose production has been entirely carried out by the technical team of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía.

The Genoese maestro is conducting the artists of the Centre de Perfeccionament, the Cor de la Generalitat, and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana for the first time. His resume includes work at major opera houses, notably the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, the Bavarian State Opera, and the English National Opera.

Isabel Hindersin, after teaching various acting workshops throughout the current course at the Centre, signs her first operatic production for this project.

As the artist explains: “ Così fan tutte is above all a work that allows young singers to showcase their vocal and interpretive qualities by immersing themselves in roles that present a beautiful challenge. On the one hand, these characters require a high level of vocal, musical, and artistic skill, and on the other, they allow artists the opportunity to bring to life complex and profound characters, full of enthusiasm, joy, contradictions, and pain.”

Manuel Zuriaga designed the set, and Antonio Castro designed the lighting. Some of the costumes are courtesy of the CulturArts Music Unit, in collaboration with the technical department of the Valencian arts center.

The cast is made up of students from this fourth graduating class, some of whom have already participated in productions of the 2012-2013 Season at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía: Jinkyung Park (Fiordiligi), Marina Pinchuk (Dorabella), Roxana Herrera (Despina), Daniel Stefanov (Don Alfonso), Valentino Buzza (Ferrando) and Mattia Olivieri (Guglielmo).
