Valencia. The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía production of Puccini's La Bohème will undertake an extensive tour in the coming months of July and August, with stops in Bilbao, Madrid, and Rome as part of the summer opera program in these cities.

The production, with staging, set design and lighting by Davide Livermore and video creation by Paolo Gep Cucco, thus joins the list of own productions and co-productions that the Valencian arts center rents to other theaters.

The Baths of Caracalla in Rome is the first of the venues that will host La Bohème . The Rome Opera has commissioned video versions of this work for its summer season, for a new co-production with the Palau de les Arts, which will premiere on July 14th in the ruins of the ancient baths of the Eternal City.

This will be followed by the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Auditorium Theatre in Madrid, which will present the Palau de les Arts production on August 1st and 3rd. Later that same month, La Bohème will headline the operatic offering of the 75th edition of the San Sebastian Musical Fortnight, with two performances on August 15 and 17, at the Kursaal.

Puccini's La Bohème thus becomes the eleventh title produced or co-produced by the Palau de les Arts to be acquired by another theater or festival for inclusion in its program. The list includes Bizet's Carmen , Chapí's El rey que rabió , Beethoven's Fidelio , Chapí's La Bruja , Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore , Opérame . ¿Qué diablos es la ópera?, Verdi's Otello , Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle ( Das Rheingold , Die Walküre , Siegfried , and Götterdämmerung ), Puccini's Turandot , and Martín i Soler's Una cosa rara .

Nationally, productions produced or co-produced by the Valencian arts center have been performed in A Coruña, Bilbao, Murcia, Pamplona, Peralada, Seville and Valladolid.

Outside of our country, the Palau de les Arts has exported its productions to Austria (Graz), China (Guangzhou), the United States (Houston and Los Angeles), Italy (Genoa, Palermo and Trieste) and Monaco (Monte Carlo).

Premiered in December 2012, with Riccardo Chailly as musical director, Puccini's La Bohème was the first collaboration of Livermore, current artistic director of the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo, with the operatic venue of Valencia.

The Palau de les Arts won two Campoamor Lyric Theatre Awards this year, considered the 'Goya Awards' of opera, for Puccini's La Bohème . Milanese conductor Riccardo Chailly won the award for best musical direction, and Valencian soprano Carmen Romeu, who sang the role of Musetta in this production, received the award for best new singer.

Likewise, Puccini's La Bohème has been released on DVD and Blu-ray by the C Major label, publisher of other Palau de les Arts hits such as Alfano's Cyrano de Bergerac , Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelung , Beethoven's Fidelio , Falla's La vida breve , Berlioz's Les Troyens , Verdi's Otello , Puccini's Turandot and Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin .
