Night at Les Arts
On Wednesday, October 8, the ninth anniversary of the building's inauguration, the Palau de les Arts has programmed 'Nit a Les Arts', a white night in which the Valencian arts center offers technical-artistic exhibitions and live performances, as well as an exhibition with scenic elements and costumes from its most celebrated productions.
'Nit a Les Arts' begins at 7:30 p.m. with the first of six technical and artistic demonstrations in the Main Hall of the building. In groups of up to 240 people, attendees have the opportunity to experience firsthand, through a live performance on stage, the workings of the stage machinery, lighting, audiovisual equipment, and all the elements necessary to put on an opera production. The artistic portion is presented by artists from the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo, who perform arias and excerpts from some of the most well-known works in the repertoire.
The show is complemented by the free-access exhibition in the Main Hall Vestibule featuring costumes and set pieces from Puccini's Turandot and Verdi's La forza del destino , two of the Palau de les Arts productions that have received the most acclaim in recent years.
In this regard, the opera house reports that six performances of this show are scheduled, each lasting approximately 40 minutes. The last performance will take place at 12:30 a.m. Tickets must be reserved in advance to attend.
From 8:30 p.m. onwards, the building designed by Santiago Calatrava opens its terraces and balconies to anyone who wants to discover and enjoy the outdoor spaces of the opera house, enlivened by performances from the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana and Berklee College of Music, which will continue until 2 a.m.
The Cor de la Generalitat, participating in this event for the first time, will perform five sets, from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., featuring choral excerpts from the operas comprising the 2014-2015 season at the Palau de les Arts. With Francisco Perales conducting and accompanied on piano by Francisco Hervás, the audience will enjoy passages from Puccini's Manon Lescaut , Moreno Torroba's Luisa Fernanda , Donizetti's Don Pasquale , Bellini's Norma , and Verdi's Nabucco .
Berklee College of Music, for its part, brings the contemporary note with two ensembles that, from 0.30 to 2.00 h, will perform a repertoire composed of jazz and Brazilian music.
In addition, from 8:30 p.m. until 2 a.m., the Palau de les Arts has provided a restaurant service both on the terraces of the eleventh floor and in the cafeteria on the eighth floor for those who decide to spend the night of October 8 to 9 at the opera house.
