'Nit a Les Arts' begins at 7:30 p.m. with the first of six technical and artistic demonstrations in the building's Main Hall. In groups of up to 240 people, attendees have the opportunity to experience firsthand, through a live performance on stage, the workings of the stage machinery, lighting, audiovisual equipment, and all the elements necessary to put on an opera production.
The artistic portion is provided by artists from the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo, who will perform arias and excerpts from some of the most well-known works in the repertoire. The Palau de les Arts has announced that all free tickets for these performances are sold out.
In addition, a free-access exhibition has been set up in the Main Hall Vestibule featuring costumes and set pieces from Puccini's Turandot and Verdi's La forza del destino , two of the Palau de les Arts productions that have received the most acclaim in recent years.
From 8:30 p.m. onwards, the building designed by Santiago Calatrava opens its terraces and balconies to anyone who wants to discover and enjoy the outdoor spaces of the opera house.
The Cor de la Generalitat, collaborating for the first time in this event, will perform choruses from the 2014-2015 Palau de les Arts season at the Los Toros Restaurant from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. With Francisco Perales conducting and accompanied on piano by Francisco Hervás, the audience will enjoy five performances featuring excerpts from Puccini's Manon Lescaut , Moreno Torroba's Luisa Fernanda , Donizetti's Don Pasquale , Bellini's Norma , and Verdi's Nabucco .
Berklee College of Music, for its part, brings the contemporary note with two ensembles that, from 0.30 to 2.00 h, will perform a repertoire composed of jazz and Brazilian music.
In addition, from 8:30 p.m. until 2:00 a.m., the Palau de les Arts has provided catering service both on the terraces of the eleventh floor and in the cafeteria on the eighth floor for those who decide to spend the night of October 8 to 9 at the opera house.
