15.11.2014

Gimeno will return to Valencia in March 2015 for his first operatic production, Bellini's Norma .

Valencia. Gustavo Gimeno (Valencia, 1976) makes his debut tomorrow, Sunday, November 16, at 7:00 p.m., at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía with a concert leading the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana.

On the music stand are Beethoven's Symphonies No. 4 and 6, the same program with which the Valencian maestro performed with the Palau de les Arts' resident orchestra in Castelló last April to celebrate the Auditori's tenth anniversary.

The year 2014 marked the meteoric rise of Gustavo Gimeno. Principal percussionist of Amsterdam's prestigious Concertgebouw Orchestra from 2001 to 2013, he replaced Mariss Jansons at the beginning of the year, leading the orchestra in two concerts in the Dutch capital. The critical and popular acclaim launched his conducting career, which received a further boost months later when the Munich Philharmonic asked him to replace Lorin Maazel on a tour of Germany. Later that spring, the Luxembourg Philharmonic appointed the young maestro as its new principal conductor, effective from the 2015-2016 season.

For the current season, the conductor has a long list of important commitments on his agenda, including work with the City of Birmingham Orchestra, the Berlin DSO, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Danish National Orchestra, the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, the Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich, as well as the radio orchestras of Hanover, Holland and Stuttgart.

On March 8, 2015, Gustavo Gimeno will premiere his first operatic production, Bellini's Norma , at the Palau de les Arts. The Valencian arts center presents a new, original production directed by Davide Livermore. The grande dame of bel canto, Mariella Devia, heads the cast of Norma , which also features the voices of Varduhi Abrahamyan, Russell Thomas, and Sergei Artamonov.
