Primary school students learn about the work of the Cor de la Generalitat at the Palau de les Arts

Valencia. The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía has hosted for the first time 'Tots a Cor', an educational activity resulting from the collaboration between the Valencian arts center and CulturArts Música.

Third cycle primary school students have visited the opera house to learn about the work of the Cor de la Generalitat, one of the pillars on which the artistic quality of the Palau de les Arts is based.

Under the direction of Francisco Perales, the choir is considered one of the leading choirs in Spain and has received praise from conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Lorin Maazel, and Zubin Mehta. Currently, the Cor de la Generalitat is rehearsing Puccini's Manon Lescaut and Moreno Torroba's Luisa Fernanda , the two operas that will open this year's season.

The Didactic Program's proposal aims to teach the workings and structure of a choir, the different voices that make it up, and also to introduce young people to musical fragments from some of the opera titles that make up the 2014-2015 season.

Through this activity, students become familiar with one of the artistic bodies of an opera house and, at the same time, have the opportunity to learn more precisely about the possibilities and use of the human voice as the main musical instrument.

During the weeks prior to the visit to the Valencian arts center, the teams of music education teachers have worked on the didactic content and activities included in the teaching guide sent by the Education Department of the Palau de les Arts.

The arts center will host new editions of 'Tots a Cor' on the occasion of the rehearsals of Don Pasquale , by Donizetti, Norma , by Bellini, and Nabucco , by Verdi, starting in January 2015.
