Valencia. The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía joins the celebrations of the European Opera Days from May 8 to 10 with a varied agenda of activities.

The screening of La Traviata in the Aula Magistral, streamed live by the Teatro Real, opens the series of events on May 8th, which continues on the 9th with more activities to bring opera to everyone. That day, the arts center opens its doors with guided tours of the technical and artistic areas of the Palau de les Arts, a new edition of the VestuArts educational workshop, and a rehearsal of Domenico Scarlatti's opera Narciso .

The program is rounded out by a competition organized by the Education Department for children aged 8 to 10 about Verdi's Nabucco , which will allow the winners to see the preliminaries and part of the performance of this work on May 10.

The Palau de les Arts announces that all activities are free of charge, but due to capacity limits, it is necessary to submit a ticket reservation request in advance on the website www.lesarts.com , through a form that will be available the first week of May.

The Teatro Real in Madrid, currently hosting the Opera Europa conference, is streaming its current production of La Traviata . A screen will be set up in the Aula Magistral for this purpose, allowing viewers to watch the Verdi classic, conducted by Renato Palumbo and directed by David McVicar.

For guided tours as well as for the VestuArts Workshop, three shifts have been established that will begin at 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., the Teatre Martín i Soler will host the open rehearsal of Narciso .

The tour of the building, accompanied at all times by a guide from the Palau de les Arts, includes the key points for the development of an opera performance: the departments of characterization, costumes, props, the dressing room area as well as the stage box of the Main Hall, the epicenter of all lyrical performances.

Through VestuArts , children, accompanied by adults if they wish, will discover in a practical way the work of the department in charge of the creation, adaptation and making of the costumes of singers, choir members and extras in each opera production.

To get a firsthand look at the work leading up to an opera's premiere, the Teatro Martín i Soler will allow the public to witness a rehearsal by the artists of the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo. The singers in this project are currently immersed in their upcoming production of Domenico Scarlatti's Narciso , directed by Davide Livermore.

Nabucco for the little ones

The Education Department has also organized a contest for children aged 8 to 10 about Verdi's Nabucco . To participate, children must answer a questionnaire about the opera, available at www.lesarts.com . The contest is part of the Educational Program for this season.

The winners will then visit the Palau de les Arts on May 10 for a performance of Nabucco and will see the entire process prior to the start of a performance: the work of the stage technicians, the preparation of musicians, extras and singers, the characterization of each of the characters… which will end with attendance at the first act of this opera.
