José Miguel Pérez Sierra conducts Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at Les Arts

José Miguel Pérez Sierra will take over as musical director of the concert-show “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, on June 23rd at the Auditori of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía.

The Madrid-born maestro replaces Ramón Tebar, the main guest conductor of the arts center, who has had to cancel his participation for health reasons.

Pérez Sierra debuted at Les Arts in 2009 with the musical direction of Rossini's "La scala di seta", a title that has been followed by zarzuelas such as Chapí's "El rey que rabió" or "El dúo de "La Africana" as well as a concert with works of the Spanish lyric genre.

Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" closes the subscription season at Les Arts, on the same date that summer begins. The program also includes the German composer's "Scottish Symphony."

The arts center presents a new concert-performance, a self-produced show with stage direction by Allex Aguilera. Actress Rossy de Palma returns to the Valencia Opera House, having previously appeared in productions of the zarzuela "La corte de Faraón" by Lleó Barbastre and "Romancero Gitano" by García Lorca. The renowned performer lends her voice to the excerpts from Shakespeare's comedy that the composer incorporated into the score.
