Les Arts offers free shows and free access to its spaces during the 9th Open House Day

19.09.2016

The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía celebrates its IX Open Day next Sunday, September 25, in which it proposes, in addition to visiting the building, three free concerts.

Les Arts opens that day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., non-stop, so that citizens can get to know its most emblematic spaces: the Main Hall, the Terrasses de les Palmeres, which serve as access to the Auditori, or the Balcó de la Mar, with views of the entire City of Arts and Sciences.

The tour is only affected by the scheduling of the various shows included in today's program. Visitors can also enjoy the cafeteria service on the eighth floor of the building, overlooking the Turia Gardens, and on the eleventh floor.

The Les Arts box office will also be open on Sunday the 25th for anyone wishing to obtain information or purchase tickets for the second edition of the affordable preseason program, which begins on October 1st and includes titles such as Donizetti's "L'elisir d'amore" and Penella's "El gato montés," as well as concerts like "Cantúria Cantada," "Gloria e Imeneo," and "Noves veus." The opera house is maintaining its standard ticket prices for this initiative, with opera tickets in the Main Hall ranging from €7 to €50, concerts in the Auditori from €10 to €20, and performances in the Teatre Martín i Soler for €15.

Three free musical offerings

In the music section, the Teatre Martín i Soler hosts two performances, at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., of a tribute to the Valencian soprano Lucrezia Bori, muse of the 2016-2017 season at Les Arts. Actress and dancer Fatima Samles embodies the diva in her journey through the various operas of the new season, performed by artists from the Centre Plácido Domingo. Excerpts from "La Traviata," such as the famous "Brindisi" and "Addio del passato," as well as arias from other operas like "Werther," "L'elisir d'amore," and "El gato montés," make up the program of this concert-performance directed by Emilio López.

Roberto Abbado, musical director of Les Arts, will close the Open House with a free concert in the Auditori at 7:00 p.m. The Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, under the baton of the Milanese maestro, will present a program featuring Beethoven's "Egmont Overture," Schubert's "Symphony No. 8," and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "Symphony No. 4."

Les Arts reminds everyone that it is essential to request a ticket to attend these performances. To this end, 70% of the available tickets will be distributed through the website www.lesarts.com starting at 10:00 AM on Thursday, the 22nd. On Friday, the 23rd, the remaining 30% of tickets will be distributed in person starting at 10:00 AM at the Box Office. Only two tickets per person will be allocated for one of the three concerts, both online and in person.

Live broadcast of “Otello” from the Teatro Real in Madrid

On Saturday the 24th, at 8:00 pm, Les Arts joins the celebrations of the bicentenary of the Teatro Real with the live broadcast from the Madrid coliseum of Verdi's "Otello".

The Aula Magistral hosts this free screening of the opera that has opened the 2016-2017 Season in Madrid, with Gregory Kunde as 'the Moor of Venice', a role with which he already debuted at the Palau de les Arts in 2013 directed by Zubin Mehta in a production by Davide Livermore.

George Petean (Iago) and Ermonela Jaho (Desdemona) join the American tenor in the cast of this “Otello”, which features musical direction by Renato Palumbo and stage direction by David Alden.

Tickets for the screening of “Otello” will be distributed on the 24th, starting at 7:00 p.m., at the Les Arts Box Office until the room is full.
